    Tree identification.

Can anyone recommend a website that would help me ID trees, Ideally a downloadable and one that would tell me various uses for different trees.

I found this but am hoping there are better out there.

I went to google images - for specific tree ID
Try this one http://www.naturedetectives.org.uk/d.../id_leaves.htm for free downloads.

This is one of my favourite sites for tree identification, however it is an online tool only. I tend to collect samples and bring then home. Like Klause I also use the nature detectives site, it is not only good for kids, but the leaf and twig guides are quite handy for adults too.

As for uses, there are lots of resources on the web, but they tend to be application specific, one site is good for medicinal, one for edible, one for carving, etc...

Your best bet for a field guide is to spend a little and get the colins gem guides. Not what your after I know, but there is little else.

Here's another good site for tree Id (leaves, bark etc) but not uses...

    http://www.woodlands.co.uk/owning-a-...cation/ash.php

If you have a phone with a web browser & data connection then type any/all of the site addresses above into your browser and save as favorites and then you can go online in the field so to speak.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it'll be a combination of all your web finds, some photoshop, and a laminator..... waterproof A5 flashcards.

When I get a fair few finished as I want them I'll see if I can put it on here as a PDF download. If thats possible.

I always carry a pocket SAS Survival Guide with my gear. It has literally everything in it you need to know about the outdoors and stuff like tree and plant identification. Plus it's nice to have something to read once you get set up and kick back Always nice to have something like that as a reference aswell just incase.

Nice links here, this is something I need to learn, different trees and plants, especially edible stuff
