Machette + Screwdriver = Fire Piston

Decided this was the best place to post this link on a native Semelai making a fire piston using a machette/parang and a screwdriver.

For those of you that have ever tried to make a fire piston.....you will know how much of a challenge it is to get it right (even with power tools). Check the vid out...

    Totally cool
CLAP clearly loudly, as an order, with pauses

Watched a bit of it, will do later, but one other video led me to another and I came across this kid who made a firepiston out of an AA Maglite housing, and he keeps the charcloth in the screw on head of it. Pretty impressive, have to watch the rest of it.

Great to see skills that are that well honed. He's obviously made a few in his time!

Makes me want to have a go. How hard can it be? LOL! I have a lot of respect for people like him who've got the eyes and hands to make such great tools.

Certainly took less effort than a bow drill.

I actually made a fire piston a few weeks ago, yes it works, the piston is done I just need to mount it in a suitable handle.

I might make another with a video and/or pics.
