Just a guess; perhaps in an airtight box it sweats. Try storing paper or tissue in the box with it to draw some of the moisture out and see if that helps.

Great Video. As a beginner bushcrafter I have found that if I store birch bark and carry it in my tinder box for a few days, I really struggle to light it. But if I get it and try to light it on the same day it works straight away. Does any one know why this is, or is it just down to poor technique?
