Crusader
Cup Hanger
A MOD to hang your Crusader Cup
Article by Chainsaw
I was watching this thread on the forums and someone mentioned a hanger for the crusader cup. There was then another link to someone making one in the field which was really cool so I thought I'd figure out how to make a slightly more permanent one. You can buy these fellas on Ebay for a couple of quid but I've got a tight scotsman stereotype to liveup to! ;)
For this you'll need the following;
First
thing to do is drill a couple of holes in the cup. I thought long and hard about
doing this but I never really drink out of it anyway, I use the plastic water
bottle cup and the holes are so near the top and not at the bit you drink out of
so I think it should be OK. Pack bits of wood inside the cup (preferably flat
bits) so that when you put pressure on the cup walls there is no danger of you
collapsing the cup and/or bending it. You want to find the spot where you want
to start drilling, carefully place the punch and give a single tap with the
hammer to make a little indentation. This will stop the drill
bit
skating about the surface of the cup, you could also maybe use a bit of masking
tape for this. When you've drilled the 3 or 4mm holes use the bigger bit to give
them a little tickle on both sides to remove any jaggy burrs.
Now you need to do the hanger itself. Use a bit of para cord to estimate the length, it's probably longer than you think. Cut the coathanger with a pair of pliers and use the file to round the sharp ends. Fold it round the handle of the hammer to form the loop then use the jaws of the pliers to put a tight bend in each end. Use a bit of masking tape or a cloth to stop the jaws damaging your lovely new hanger. A couple of bends to shape it properly and bob should be your uncle.
Not terribly exciting I know, but it kept me busy for an hour or so last night!!
Cheers,
Alan
